CLASS – 10/23/16

This week Sister Katie and Natalia from Heart’s Home shared their experiences as missionaries in the world, and their current missionary work in Brooklyn. We learned that being a missionary is not always about doing something specific, but about allowing yourself to bring God’s love to others.

Homework: There are two homework assignments this week.

1. Be a missionary at school. Find someone who looks alone or lonely and connect with this person. Maybe invite him or her to sit with your friends at lunch. Write about the experience in your notebooks and bring this to class.

2. Each of you received the name of a missionary saint. Go online or to a book to find out more about this saint’s life and mission work. Be prepared to share what you learned with the class.

CLASS – 10/16/16

This week we talked about the role of ministry in the life of a parish. We tend to think of ministries as “jobs” in the church, but really they are a means through which we use our own special gifts to help spread God’s love.

Homework: Once again, you are asked to spend at least 30 minutes this week helping out in your own home. Remember this is service, which means you are bringing God’s love and the love you feel for your family into this activity. It could be helping prepare a meal, cleaning up afterwards so that your parents can relax, reading to a sibling, etc. It cannot be doing your normal expected chores. When you have finished, write about the service in your notebook. What did you choose to do? How did it help bring God’s love to your home? How did you feel about doing it?

Make Up Work: In addition to the homework, any student who was not in class on 10/16 must complete the below assignment and bring it to class on 10/23.

CLASS – 10/09/16

This week we concluded our study of Apostle’s Creed.

Homework: Through Confirmation, we conclude the sacraments of initiation and are now ready to set our as disciples of Christ. Part of being a disciple is bringing God’s love to those around you. This week, you will be bringing that love to your household. Your homework is to spend at least 30 minutes providing a service to your home. It could be helping to clean up without being asked, taking care of a sibling, spending time with an elderly family member, etc. It cannot be doing a task or chore that you are regularly required to complete. In your notebook, describe what you did and how it helped your family. How did you feel after completing this task?

Make Up Work: In addition to the homework, any student who was not in class on 10/9 must complete the below assignment and bring it to class on 10/16.

CLASS – 10/02/16

This week we began our exploration of the Apostle’s Creed as a way of connecting more firmly with the things we believe as Catholics.

Homework: Students are expected to recite the Apostles Creed once a day for the entire week, so that by Sunday morning they will have said it 7 times. If you miss a day, you can double up on the next one. (That means if you forget all week, you need to get through 7 Creeds – outloud! – before arriving to church at 8:45am on Sunday.

Make Up Work: In addition to the homework, any student who was not in class on 10/2 must complete the below assignment and bring it to class on 10/9.

CLASS – 9/25/16

In class this week, we reviewed the expectations for Confirmation year and did a general review of vocabulary and important people.

Homework: All students were assigned a saint in class. Next week (10/2), students will share the name of their saint, the years the saint was alive, and one interesting fact about that saint. Students who were not in class this week, may pick any saint of their choosing for this assignment.

Make Up Work: In addition to the homework, any student who was not in class on 9/25 must complete the below assignment and bring it to class on 10/2.
